I missed Thanksgiving! and now it is almost Christmas

Silverwalk is a small, private, licensed dog sanctuary in Cape Girardeau County, MO. It specializes in Beagles, other hounds, and senior, special needs dogs. There are always dogs needing adoption and sponsorship. Please see our website for more information about Silverwalk and our dogs needing homes.

Silverwalk has had so much to be thankful for this year: our wonderful adopters who not only adopted great dogs but dug in and helped Sweetie Pie and other seniors here. Sweetie Pie is on my lap right now. Her heart worm treatment is completed. We will wait for her 6 month check up; if all is ok, we will get her hernia and spay (if necessary) done. Sweetie Pie is a clothing model for Busch's Pet Products - she is modeling the camo sweater. "I am ready for my close up, Mr. DeVille!"

Our adopters are fabulous and so are our volunteers! Coeds from the local university, both independently and from Tri-Sigma, have been coming out at least on a weekly and more often twice a week basis to walk the dogs and love on them. Wow, have we all seen improvements: Farrah is now coming up to people to be petted, Sheila (my personal Sheltie from a puppy mill) is quite the diva, demanding her weekly brushing from Sarah. If ever she is missing, I know who first to call :), Mimi, our gimpy fat senior Beagle who is NOT gimpy when it comes to going back home - "nope, not gonna do it and you can't make me; wait, picking me up is not fair." She is too funny but Oxford follows in her wake - let's just walk and walk and walk.

I am very grateful as well to Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary who helps us w/food and other items as well as well needed advice. We have fun w/them at Petco one Saturday a month.

I could go on and on - thanks to Marilyn and Julie Griney - Julie was able to share a lot of goodies between numerous shelters and Marilyn divvied it up and doled it out to us all - Thanks! Also Debi Baker at Recycling Rover in Morse Mills, MO - photographer extraordinaire - it is her photography and probably her dogs/cats you see on Purina and other pet foods/commercials. She is very generous to Southeast MO w/her time and helping find homes in the big city for our stray pets.

Most of all I am grateful to God, the human birth of whose Son we celebrate this month. He has blessed me over and over at home, at work, at church and in every way. Glory to God in the highest and indeed, peace on earth to mankind.

Have a mindful, joyous Christmas, celebrating our Lord. See you next year!
