The Beagles are Here!

Silverwalk is a small, private, licensed dog sanctuary in Cape Girardeau County, MO. It specializes in Beagles, other hounds, and senior, special needs dogs. There are always dogs needing adoption and sponsorship. Please see our website for more information about Silverwalk and our dogs needing homes.

May 24 - The HW+ Beagles from Marion Animal Shelter are here and have started their treatments. There are 3 - Fred, Ginger and Lilah. Fred and Ginger are believed to be litter mates. Lilah is older w/a dumpy figure who makes sure you know when it is meal time :).

On a sad note, Rosebud, the "Saint Pyr" featured in the April Inaugural post, was at the spa (vet's) and found dead one morning - it is believed she bloated :(. Pyr people including Caroline and Barbara were working hard to find her an only dog home when she died. Silverwalk is saddened at her loss as is everyone who knew her.

On a different note again, Silverwalk accepted two older Beagle mix puppies who are being called Chip and Monk (I like Tony Shaloub as an actor as well as his USA show, "Monk."). Currently, they are outdoor dogs w/little trust for humans but are coming along! Both tested NEGATIVE for HW, Ehrlichiosis and Lyme - whew! What a blessing. They LOVE being w/the pack. Farrah the Foxhund especially enjoys playing w/them.

Silverwalk is also looking forward to bringing in a senior Black and Tan Coonhound from NE MO and a senior (just) beautiful F Beagle from TN who was rescued and nursed back to health by a very caring and compassionate finder.

Prayers are daily said for our servicemen/women both here and abroad as well as for those animals, children and people who suffer abuse and exploitation.

Memorial Day and Friends

May,13 - A long time from April 22! and much has happened at Silverwalk. Five Beagles and Beagle mixes came to Silverwalk last week! Three are here as fosters for the Marion Animal Shelter in Marion, AR as they are treated for heartworms; two are puppies, about 6 months old, very unsure of humans but loving the pack, who live outside (so far).

I have been privileged to hear from multiple adopters/sponsors since my initial post. Most have inquired about the flooding in our area and if Silverwalk has been affected (very minimally so far by the grace of God). I have heard from Dan and Lesley in CO who adopted Katie, Dawn in KC, MO for whom Silverwalk is a foster home for her beloved Victor, Wendy from St. Louis whose family adopted Jasper as a companion to their other Beagle, Sasha and children.

I also heard from Joy in Ordway, CO, who adopted Mikey, now Sparky. Her town had a terrible fire when a planned burn got out of control. The lives of two volunteer firemen were lost as well as homes. Our prayers and support go out to the good people of Ordway.

This is the merry month of May. While you hopefully are enjoying spring, please do not forget the sacrifices made by our veterans, present and past, on Memorial Day this year. Our freedoms are too dear to be taken for granted. Be informed on issues and stands by the candidates so you vote for the record and platform, not for the sound bite. VOTE.
