A Very Special Birthday

Margie, Dumpster Diver
Tomorrow is Margie's third birthday. She was found almost 3 years ago in a closed dumpster behind a St. Louis area Wal-Mart. An employee and rescue volunteer went outside as part of her work and heard noises. She looked all around, then lifted up the lid, finding Margie determined to live. Margie was named after her rescuer Margie. I've finally decided (w/o DNA) she is most likely a Border Terrier mix. Smart as a whip, territorial and called "Whiskers" by the neighbors.

Happy Summer Solstice Birthday, Margie!  BTW, I was supposed to adopt her out; obviously did not happen :) - HA.

Fuzzy Wuzzy

Silverwalk Hounds is a hound sanctuary - short hair dogs...for a long time, the only two fuzzies belonged to me:

Seymour PH (Phillip Hoffman) - Seymour and Sheila below were a 2 for 1 special Sally made me when I was looking for a Sheltie (don't ask me why); Seymour had been adopted twice but when in his home, would defend the wife against the husband! This didn't show up in his shelter and the last home worked four months but concluded he was miserable - so he came to me, single woman with dogs

Sheila Sheltie (right) was a puppy mill momma for 10 years; she is a beautiful dog with weird teeth. As you can see, she is quite the Princess. She attended a Greek day celebration pulled in a wagon on a very soft blanket a few years ago. Poor Sheila is thunder-phobic but otherwise is a very tough older dog. She is now blind in her right eye with some clouding in the left, too.

Snowman is a foster for National Great Pyrenees Rescue; he was found lost with no one claiming him in the area so he is looking for a new home. And yes, he, too, is fuzzy, very, very fuzzy! In this photo, he has just arrived home from a bath and de-shedding; I love his "mane."

Were these three enough fuzzies? Apparently not.....

Here is Sparky, a purebred rough Collie, intact male, who wandered from his farm home so much his family was afraid for his safety. He is in the process of becoming a foster for Minnesota - Wisconsin Collie Rescue. He will be fostered here for a time, then perhaps move north. I'd previously had a Collie like this so learned some grooming techniques for them; Sparky is not fond of having his undercoat removed so I am working slowly. Today he is at the vet for his heart-worm check, worming, bordetella and maybe neuter (depending if HW if negative). He is a wonderful dog (have never met a rough/smooth Collie who isn't) who likes to play with Justus and Snowman.

Two more large very fuzzy wuzzy dogs - both learning house manners (Sparky was an outside dog but wants to be with everyone else).  Even a hound sanctuary opens its doors to those in need who are not hounds! Beagles remain my favorites but it's fun to learn about other breeds/types, too :).
